Volkstheater

The Volkstheater Rostock is the four-part theater of the Hanseatic and university city and includes musical theater, drama, dance theater and the concert offerings of the North German Philharmonic Orchestra Rostock. Together, these disciplines form the cultural backbone of the Regiopole.

With performances of classical works in the Grosses Haus, entertaining plays in the Kleine Komödie Warnemünde and a contemporary program in the Ateliertheater, the Volkstheater offers a wide range of artistic experiences for a broad audience. These range from profound performances to light entertainment and appeal to the soul as well as the mind and senses. In the summer months, from May to September, the Volkstheater summer takes place in Hall 207 on the site of the former Neptune shipyard. Since 2017, the historic shipbuilding hall has been transformed into a stage for special summer events, including operettas, musicals and concerts by the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock, which attract both locals and tourists.
