Schwerin's city library is centrally located in the Schweriner Höfe, where shopping, services, living and culture are united under one roof. It offers not only a place to use media, but also a place to retreat and a space for encounters. With a modern selection of media and regular events for children and adults, the library appeals to a wide audience.

The library provides the residents of Schwerin and the surrounding area with literature and information. Its collection comprises around 110,000 media from various fields of knowledge. One focus of its work is on promoting reading and media skills among children and young people, which is why the library works closely with schools, kindergartens and educational institutions.

Schwerin City Library is also part of the state-wide Onleihe Mecklenburg-Vorpommern network, which offers access to around 70,000 digital media.
