Offenders could seek shelter there to escape the gallows or the execution site on Thieboldsgasse, which stood on Neumarkt in the 17th to 18th centuries. Neumarkt was almost completely destroyed during the Second World War. Afterwards, much was rebuilt, but some was also lovingly restored.
