In Herrmannstrasse in Neukölln, the word "movie theater" comes to its true meaning. Behind a rather inconspicuous tenement facade, a cinema opens up to the visitor in rare splendor. After an extensive and costly renovation in 1998, the OFF became the NEW OFF and at the same time one of the most beautiful cinemas in the city. Originally opened as a revue theater, the auditorium has been lovingly restored in 1950s style. The restored ceiling friezes, the fabric-covered walls, the original red Sarotti counter from the 50s in the foyer are worth a visit alone. But also in the seating with 187 fully upholstered seats (with guaranteed unobstructed view) and the technical equipment, value was placed on the best quality. Here, Cinemascope is truly an experience. The programming is quality-oriented and shows arthouse cinema from all over the world, often in original language. In this way, the NEW OFF continues a tradition that the "old" OFF had begun with its cultivation of European and German cinematic art, thus writing Berlin cinema history. Since 2007, NEUE OFF has also been the venue for the Turkish Film Week, giving Turkish and non-Turkish Berliners the opportunity to get to know a facet of Turkish culture that is often underrepresented in public. With its close proximity to Hermannplatz, the noble cinema is easily accessible. Before or after a visit to the cinema, you can make yourself comfortable in the cozy foyer or take advantage of the numerous opportunities for evening activities offered by Neukölln and Kreuzberg.
