Unique concept
The Museum am Schölerberg combines a natural history museum, an environmental education center and a planetarium under one roof in a unique way. With a history of over 150 years, it is the most popular museum in Osnabrück. Its collection, which includes over 270,000 exhibits from the animal and plant world, impressively tells the geological history of the Osnabrück region. The collection is particularly valuable thanks to rare finds from the Carboniferous period, such as the 6.5-metre-wide and 307-million-year-old trunk of a sigillaria tree, which is internationally unique.
Education for sustainable development
As a certified place of learning, the museum's environmental education center is committed to nature and environmental issues, particularly with a focus on sustainability. It offers a wide range of activities and programs for children and families, including the "Grashüpfer" environmental mobile, the "Forschen-Staunen-Entdecken" event series and various hands-on activities for all age groups.
A window to the universe
In addition to the natural history exhibitions, the museum is one of only two natural history museums in Germany to have its own planetarium. With modern fulldome video technology and a projection area of 100 square meters, it invites visitors to enjoy a varied program ranging from classic star shows and colourful musical productions to exciting specialist lectures.
