The Haus der Jugend occupies a special position as a children's, youth and cultural center. The reasons for this are its central location, its history, its size, its catchment area of the entire city center but also beyond its city limits and its diverse tasks.

The center's tasks include open youth work, educational work with projects and socio-spatial concepts, and cooperation in vacation care and the Mainz vacation card.

The center's employees are also involved in Open Ohr, Children's Rights Week, the Mainz Children's Theater Festival and in the district committees.

The Haus der Jugend has multifunctional rooms that enable a wide variety of groups in the social area and throughout the city to use the facility as a resource.

Over 20 cooperation partners and associations use the building.

Almost 200 socio-cultural events take place in two event halls. These include concerts and theater performances in the M8 and numerous other events, for example as part of the Mainz Carnival.
