The museum in Aachen-Kornelimünster is part of the Kunsthaus NRW, which is committed to promoting the visual arts in NRW. Behind this is the "Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Bildenden Kunst", a non-profit organization of the Ministry of Culture and Science.

In short: Kunsthaus NRW aims to promote and document art - in other words, it is all about supporting artists in NRW.

The company was founded in 2022 by the Ministry of Culture and Science NRW, which is also the sole shareholder. The managing director is Dr. Marcel Schumacher, and the supervisory board includes Dr. Michael Reitemeyer, Clemens Hues, Norbert Stüttgen and Julia Niggemann.

"NRW is strongly characterized by the visual arts and enjoys a good international reputation. But museums alone are not enough - after all, there is no art without artists. That's why it's important to actively support artists. As early as 2016, the ministry began working with me as director to establish the Kunsthaus NRW and the State Office for Fine Arts. In 2022, the whole thing was then officially given an institutional form - the Kunsthaus NRW Kornelimünster and the State Office for Fine Arts (LaB K) are now part of the Society for the Promotion of Fine Arts."
