K34

The non-profit association "Künstler 34 e.V." was founded in 2004 from a long-established artist and studio community at Iltisstraße 34. After a temporary stay on the west bank of Kiel, the association moved to its current location at Medusastrasse 14 in Kiel-Gaarden at the beginning of 2007.

The aim of the association is to create a platform for artists and people interested in art and culture and to represent their interests in public and in politics. The association takes up the challenge of defining and fighting for free spaces in which creative people can develop and interact respectfully.

In this context, the association runs galleries at Iltisstraße 10 and Medusastraße 14 with a regular ongoing exhibition program, as well as other events such as readings, theater performances, concerts, experimental cinema and workshops. K34 likes to cooperate with other artists' groups and galleries or serves as a communication base and creative melting pot for independent K34 projects such as the former Radio Gaarden and Kulturkollektiv Gaarden, which reside in the Sendelounge in the rear building of Medusastr. 14. The artists come from Kiel and the rest of the world, and international artists are also regularly invited at the association's expense.

Once a year, the association organizes an artists' marketin Gaarden, usually at Christmas time.
The Kulturkollektiv Gaarden regularly organizes concerts at Medusa with musicians who have not been in the country for long. The concerts are recorded and published, and some are also broadcast live.

Radio Gaarden regularly publishes recordings of concerts and events in the association's venues as well as other interesting events in Gaarden and Kiel. From 2010 to 2013, a five-person editorial team regularly produced and conducted reports and interviews with people involved in the district as well as politicians and the administration of Kiel City Hall.

The Medusa event center at Medusastr. 16 operates independently and is supported by the association. Concerts, jam sessions, readings, theater and parties regularly take place there as part of the pub business Mon - Sat, 7 pm - 2 am.

The association's internet activities include the operation of its own website, an online presence for the artists, exhibitions and Makery. The "Blogbeirat" project, in which the Gaarden local council was followed via a web blog and audio recordings of public meetings could be listened to and commented on, is in the archive.

The association is financed by membership fees and donations and is institutionally funded by the City of Kiel. In the project area, the association acquires individual funding.

K34 is very well networked in Gaarden and Kiel and cooperates with the Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design, the Social City Office, the Economic Office, the Restoration Center, the TGSH, UTS/ProRegio, the Gaarden Cultural and Creative Council and various other sponsors.

The audience is a colorful mix of art-interested Gaarden residents, Kielers and beyond, who often encounter art for the first time through the association due to the low-threshold concept.

The ONspace gallery is open Tue - Thu + Sun from 3-6 pm, the K34 gallery in Medusastrasse 14 on Thursdays from 8-00 pm, by appointment and during the vernissages on Saturdays from 7-23:00 pm. Further dates can be found on the website k34.org.

The board of the association consists of Detlef Schlagheck, Arnt Fesser and Sönke Ramert.

The association Künstler 34 e.V. has been recognized as a non-profit organization by the Kiel tax office.

The association is a member of the LAG Soziokultur.
