The Stiftung Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst Leipzig is an exhibition house for contemporary art and a museum for art after 1945. The GfZK promotes and communicates international artistic positions in its own and in public spaces, initiates and realizes cooperation and research projects. The collection combines an interest in the natural integration of different artistic forms of expression, positions and generations.

Since the GfZK was founded, it has been a matter of concern to work on local themes in connection with global developments. Changes in the political, social and urban environment, migration and transcultural phenomena offer important starting points for reflecting on the GfZK's actions. In the collection presentations, new artistic productions and research projects, the aim is to enable different perspectives and develop new working methods. The concept of art is explicitly socially oriented. In this sense, the work of the GfZK focuses less on establishing a canon of values and more on the imaginative and critical-reflective potential of art. The art education programs bring people of different experiences and backgrounds together and invite them to play through the possibilities of thinking and acting in an open society using artistic means. The GfZK is an internationally established art institution in which the interrelationship between art and architecture as well as art and design is negotiated and the connection between presentation, construction of meaning and attribution of value is questioned.
