The Ernst Deutsch Theater in Hamburg is Germany's largest private theater. It was founded in 1951 by Friedrich Schütter and Wolfgang Borchert as "Das Junge Theater" and renamed "Ernst Deutsch Theater" in 1973, on the fourth anniversary of the death of the actor Ernst Deutsch.

Since its founding, the Ernst Deutsch Theater has been a forum for social debate, a stage for up-and-coming artists who are promoted here, and a theater with a wide-ranging repertoire. Isabella Vértes-Schütter has been the theater's artistic director since 1995; she has opened up the theater and continuously developed its diverse program. In 2003, the youth section plattform was founded and in 2008 an additional venue for the youth section was opened: the plattform stage. In addition, there is a studio stage for literary-musical programs in the foyer, which was redesigned in 2015.

In recent years, the Ernst Deutsch Theater has been awarded, among others, the Children's and Youth Culture Prize, the National Promotional Prize 'Theater bewegt', the Senator Neumann Prize, several times the Pegasus Prize and the Rolf Mares Prize, and as a 'Pioneer of Inclusion'.

At three venues, over 200,000 visitors experience 400 performances every theater season. The team of the Ernst Deutsch Theater with 120 employees in the theater and in the theater's own workshops is looking forward to your visit!
