The Büdchen - history and change

The Büdchen building was constructed during the Second World War. There were anti-aircraft positions on the Westerberg and today's Büdchen was used by the soldiers as a storage room, the so-called "Magazin". After the war, the anti-aircraft positions were dismantled and the area was turned into allotments. The magazine eventually became a clubhouse for the allotment gardeners.

Over time, the "Büdchen" became an insider tip for local residents. The opening hours were based on the gardening year: it opened in spring when the gardens were cultivated and closed in late fall when the gardens were ready for winter.

In the 1990s, the allotment garden association gave up the pub and the former landlady applied for a license for a public pub. We have been running the Büdchen since 2001. From the beginning, our focus was on the beer garden, but after a test run, we decided to make the Büdchen winter-proof as well. We installed a heating system, renovated the toilets and replaced the windows. Since then, we have been open almost all year round - we only go on vacation for two to three weeks in January.

The Büdchen - more than just a restaurant

The Büdchen is difficult to describe in a few words. It is - depending on the season - a place with many facets:

Büdchen "classic pub"
Despite the changes in the restaurant scene, they still exist: the classic pub-goers. Men and women, young and older guests who come to the Büdchen without a special occasion. They greet each other in a friendly manner, find a seat at the bar or at a table and enjoy an after-work beer or water. This is where the original form of the pub takes place: Communication! Academics sit next to workers, students next to pensioners - social status remains outside. People talk about everyday or worldly matters, play cards or make friends. And sometimes the sparks fly, but always within reason - the experienced bar staff make sure of that.

There is no substitute for the pub experience. While you can pick up a crate of beer in the supermarket for €8.88 and drink it in front of the TV, the pub offers something you can't get at home: a special mix of acquaintances, strangers and unexpected encounters.

Büdchen "Biergarten"
Probably the best-known face of the Büdchen appears in summer: the beer garden. Sitting under the trees in nice weather, enjoying drinks and food from the grill - the feeling of being at the end of the day or at the weekend comes naturally.

There's no need to make a reservation here, there's always a place. Guests can even bring their own snacks, just like in Bavaria. The barbecue offers a selection of sausages, meat and homemade salads. We offer special barbecue specials for groups, and boules balls for the adjacent lane can be borrowed free of charge from the bar.

Büdchen "Live"
Live music is a real trademark of the Büdchen. Between May and September, in cooperation with the Osnabrück record label "Timezone", we offer "Live im Grünen" every Wednesday - handmade music, no covers, and always at a comfortable volume. Admission is free. Once a year, there is also the larger "Büdchenfest" at the end of July, where it can get a little louder and more crowded, but the family atmosphere remains the same.

Büdchen "Sport"
The Büdchen also offers sporting events. In winter, there are traditional puzzle tournaments or Doppelkopf and skat evenings. The Viking chess tournament at the beginning of October is a particular highlight. Teams compete against each other, throw wooden blocks across the meadow, eat, drink and have fun - all in a relaxed atmosphere. Soccer fans also gather in the green for the public viewing of the World Cup.
