ZOE: FEMINA SAGA – Genesis

FEMINA SAGA - Genesis is dedicated to the tension between the image of the witch and that of the mother as narratives of female life realities. The performance artist ZOE reflects on the instrumentalization of bodies and their stories and deconstructs them right up to the moment of their creation. With FEMINA SAGA - Genesis, ZOE follows on from the piece FEMINA SAGA - a ritual journey from 2020. In this piece, ZOE talked about the archetype of the witch, asked about the reasons for her persecution and how her story is reproduced in the present. From matriarchy to myths to spaces for modern magic - in the next chapter of FEMINA SAGA - the performance once again takes the audience on a journey between fact and fiction, pain and intoxication, persecution and rehabilitation. ZOE's artistic practice is an interdisciplinary storytelling that combines elements of voguing and ballroom, physical theater, spoken word and vocal music. In it, she finds a language of resistance and reappropriation of history for those who have been overlooked, oppressed, exploited and repressed in our society.

ZOE belongs to the first generation of voguing performers in Germany and is considered one of the leading figures of ballroom culture in German-speaking countries. She was a long-standing founding member of the House of Melody (now House of Saint Laurent), which established the scene in Germany. She is now the German Mother of the international House of Elle, an established ballroom house from New York City. ZOE produces her own performances as well as cultural formats with the collective Shapes & Shades, which she co-founded to promote ballroom culture in NRW. She is currently one of three scholarship holders of the Presence on Site funding program of the Frauenkulturbüro NRW.
