Woyzeck

"Every man is an abyss, it makes you dizzy when you look down."

Somewhere, in a small town, lives Woyzeck. Life does not mean well for him. Money is tight for him, his Marie and their child. This is why Woyzeck has taken on extra jobs and serves as a guinea pig for medical nutrition experiments. The money goes to his small family. He is humiliated and ridiculed. When Marie begins an affair with the drum major and Woyzeck finds out about it, his life, which has been held together with great difficulty, falls apart: he stabs his lover to death.

Büchner's famous fragment, which he wrote when he was just 23 years old, is based on a real case of 41-year-old Johann Christian Woyzeck, who was sentenced to death for the murder of his lover in 1824. Büchner had read the legal and medical reports. His work is a timeless declaration of war against social inequality and all forms of contempt for humanity.
