In the organizer's words:
Shibari, also known as Kinbaku, is a Japanese word for tying or binding and refers to an artistic form of bondage using various ropes. Let's put it this way: anyone who has seen the elaborate rope figures into which the Shibari masters shape the often inhumanly flexible bodies of their models may well be both impressed and a little put off. However, as is so often the case, the basics of Japanese bondage are easy to learn - and with a little practice, everyone can quickly find their own way of artfully tying up their partner (or themselves).
This workshop teaches these very basics, both theoretically and - in the approaches necessary for practicing at home - also practically. The main focus will be on communication and safety in the area of bondage. We will talk about bondage for different bodies, aspects of anatomy and, of course, types of rope, materials, lengths etc. The practical part focuses on three basic techniques that can be combined and expanded into any number of sophisticated figures.
Whether dome, switch, sub, or somewhere in between - all participants get their own hands on the rope. All the moves shown can be practiced solo or with a partner. This means that solo participants are just as welcome as couples and all other constellations.
We provide ropes for practicing in the workshop. You are also welcome to bring your own ropes or buy new ropes on site.
Workshop leader:
Riley (she/you) was recently shocked when she realized that bondage has been part of her life for more than 20 years. She herself learned the basics while studying in Vancouver BC, in a fabled time before YouTube, when all knowledge of bondage had to be either passed on in person or painstakingly gleaned from obscure websites. Since then, she has repeatedly given performances and workshops over the years, including at Studio Black Fun in Leipzig and at the Kink in Pink Conference.
