Traditional lecture series in a Neustadt pub on travel experiences by cultural activists

On the road on the island of fire, ice and cinnamon buns: 6 weeks in Iceland - between art, nature and adventure

In August and September 2024, Friederike Fischer and Michael Merkel traveled to Iceland for six weeks. The lecture takes us to the relaxed capital Reykjavík and the fascinating nature of the island. On the west coast, we travel from Reykjavík along the rugged and lonely Westfjords to the wild (and surprisingly mild) north to Akureyri. There, the two spent some time in an artist's residence in the "capital of the north" and immersed themselves in the Icelandic art and culture scene.

Between endless fjords, rugged volcanic landscapes and encounters with native sheep, the pair not only experienced nature up close, but also a whole host of quirky adventures - be it an unexpected art performance, the search for the best hot tub or trying to brave the Icelandic wind.
