Black Sea, steppe, high mountains - an autumn trip

After last year's visit to the mythical Mount Kazbek in the high Caucasus, this year's trip to Georgia will take us back to the mountains. This time, however, we will travel from summer to winter in one day, from the Black Sea to the high mountains to the fortified towers of Svaneti along the Enguri River (including a coffee break at one of the largest dams in the world).

We explore decaying Soviet-era sanatoriums in the spa town of Tsaltubo and new experimental architecture all over the country, soar through the old mining town of Chiatura on new cable cars, visit a photography legend in Tbilisi and try to catch a glimpse of wild antelopes in the part of Georgia where the Midwest of the USA and the savannahs of Africa meet. There is also news from the Colchian capital of Kutaisi and the wine town of Sighnagi...

Matthias Schumann, born in 1973 in Radebeul, works mainly as a photographer but also as a curator, photo trainer and project manager. His personal photographic work focuses primarily on Eastern Europe and the political, social and cultural transformations taking place there.
