»WIE WOLLEN WIR LEBEN?«

Germany is and remains democratic. Or does it? Current concrete threats show: A liberal society can no longer be taken for granted. What is our democracy worth to us?

She is one of the most important essayists of our time, with books such as "The Consolation of Beauty" and "Life is a Temporary Condition", Gabriele von Arnim broadens our view of the world with all its ambivalences. In the anthology "Democracy" (Rowohlt), she takes on the current political challenges and, together with other important intellectuals, shows what is worth fighting for - both personally and with foresight.

And what do the "German people" think? Hasnain Kazim went out on his bike and asked people in Brandenburg and Bavaria, on the North Sea and the Rhine, in the city and in the village directly: How do you feel? Do you feel at home here? And what do you want from politics? A special kind of "tour of Germany" (Penguin).

And who is actually responsible for past guilt? Asal Dardan looks at the German past and shows that the crimes of the past are painfully present in our present. Her major essay "Traumaland" (Rowohlt) is a passionate plea for consistent remembrance work in order to save the democracy of tomorrow.

Together with Mirjam Zadoff, who vehemently advocates a liberal, conciliatory culture of conversation in the anthology "Trotzdem sprechen" (Ullstein), Gabriele von Arnim, Asal Dardan and Hasnain Kazim embark on a search for the unifying language of democracy.
