GOOD REASONS TO BE ANGRY - 09.02.
Women have many reasons to be angry in our society: on average, they work around one and a half hours more per week, but earn 39% less - because they take on much more unpaid care work. What's more, women experience gender-specific violence in public spaces, at work and at home. Every four minutes, a woman experiences violence from her partner or ex-partner. Nevertheless, female anger is often either suppressed or ridiculed, dismissed as inappropriate or even "hysterical". Yet anger also contains the power for change.
The Austrian author Mareike Fallwickl has written the highly acclaimed novel Die Wut, die bleibt, which can be seen as a stage adaptation at Theater Bielefeld. To mark the occasion, the theater, the Equal Opportunities Office of the City of Bielefeld and BellZett e.V. (a specialist institution for gender-sensitive violence prevention and movement) are joining forces to ask themselves: How can we use this anger and its power to bring about change? Actors from Bielefeld's urban society will discuss this in a panel discussion; a WenDo training session will encourage physical action.
15:00 - WenDo: trial offer for women*
How can we stand up to (experienced) discrimination in everyday situations? How can I set my boundaries?
Saying no and defending yourself is often difficult. You are invited to try out different ways of confronting unpleasant situations with confidence. We practice this with the help of body language, simple physical self-defense techniques and role-playing. All participants* decide for themselves which exercises they would like to take part in. Physical fitness is not a prerequisite.
Registration by 03.02.2025 at anmeldung@bellzett.de We recommend comfortable clothing and non-slip socks or barefoot shoes for the exercise room in BellZett.
17:00 -Conversation: Good reasons to be angry
With Katja Kolodzig (BellZett e.V.) / Beatrice Tappmeier (Feminist Network Bielefeld / Autonomous Women's Shelter) / Prof. Dr. Barbara Thiessen (Bielefeld University) / Katrin Jäger, Doris Schierbaum (Care Revolution Network)
Moderation Franziska Eisele (Theater Bielefeld), Agnieszka Salek (Equal Opportunities Officer)
The discussion can be attended independently of the WenDo training and by people of all genders.
_________
Our motto for this year's season focuses on our democracy. Our aim is to ensure that inviolable human dignity does not become a cliché, but is filled with life and meaning. For selected plays, we come together with discussion partners from Bielefeld's urban society and take a closer look at the topics and issues raised by our productions. This takes us away from our familiar theater spaces and into new places. In doing so, we will focus on the question that is more pressing than ever today: What can we do to strengthen our democracy?
