Overnight, a tree has grown on a balcony, a beech to be precise. It soon becomes clear that this is not an isolated case. Not only trees are taking root everywhere in urban centers, other forest plants, fungi and microorganisms are also spreading and inexorably making their way into the substructure of cities. The internet no longer works, the Eiffel Tower is overgrown - the reconquest of Europe by the forest begins. A balcony owner falls in love with his beech tree, a forestry worker literally outgrows her work and two prominent Romans wander through the woods and meet Bambi.

Miriam V. Lesch gives the natural world an unusual presence and its own concrete voice. In a fictional future in which nature claims its place, the forest moves from the background into absolute visibility. People must flee or adapt. In a clever and humorous way, the play creates a change of perspective that enables a new view of the relationship between humans and nature. The world premiere of "Wald" is Milena Paulovics' first directorial work as part of the new management duo at the Oldenburgisches Staatstheater.
