The lecture is dedicated to the nine-part exhibition cycle "Art around 1800", which was realized at the Hamburger Kunsthalle from 1974 to 1981 under the direction of the then director Werner Hofmann. "Art around 1800" was a research project, exhibition experiment, celebration of the visual arts and political statement all in one. In the course of the establishment of a contentious democracy in the 1970s, the series worked out the impact of works of art in the "Age of Revolutions".
