Von Grenzen, Flucht und Identität

The exhibition shows comics created during the summer course "Divided Germany". The summer course took place in 2022 and 2023 as part of the federally funded project "FREMD? German history of division and unification" by GRENZHUS Schlagsdorf / Politische Memoriale e. V. and was aimed specifically at young migrants.

In the first part of the course at GRENZHUS Schlagsdorf, the participants of the summer course dealt with the history of German division and unification between 1945 and 1990 and, in the second part of the course, explored the topic artistically together with the comic author Birgit Weyhe.

The special thing about the courses was that young people with their own experience of migration talked about their experiences and turned them into comics. The results are very different comics about borders, flight and identity, which are touching and invite you to reflect, but also to smile. In contrast to the charged political debates about immigration and integration, young people talk about their views and encourage a change of perspective.

At the exhibition opening, some of the participants will talk about their comics and their experiences in the project.

The exhibition is being held in cooperation with GRENZHUS Schlagsdorf and the St. Nikolai Memorial at the St. Nikolai Memorial.

The Days of Exile 2025 (5 February to 7 March 2025) are an audience-oriented programme of events and encounters in Hamburg and other German cities and are organized by the Körber Foundation.
