Monika Funke Stern, Ruthi Helbitz Cohen and Maria Korporal work with their different religions of origin, which they may have left behind, but whose influences they still feel.

Monika Funke Stern can always recall the childlike amazement and bewilderment in the face of the exuberant imagery of Rhineland Catholicism.

Maria Korporal, who was brought up in the Netherlands in the spirit of Calvinism, remembers its purism, which tended to reject portraits. And yet it was a religious picture in her grandparents' home that captured her childhood imagination. It depicted the broad and narrow way that Jesus spoke of.

The Israeli artist Ruthi Helbitz Cohen quotes the biblical Book of Ruth to examine the conditio féminine, as in all her works. With her installation "The Book of Ruth", consisting of video and collages on textile, she reinterprets the story of Ruth and Naomi.

Religions are the reason for the joint exhibition, but not the theme. They merely provide the building blocks with which the artists play to further develop their themes. Monika Funke Stern is concerned with the constructed levels of reality in film and photography. Ruthi Helbitz Cohen touches on our perception of the human figure, especially the female figure, and Maria Korporal plays with multimedia to create ever new Korporal-Qosmoi, this time the Qalvinist-Qosmos.
