"WHERE THE BOATS GO TO SLEEP"
Vernissage: 14.03., 7 pm
with an introduction by art historian Miriam Elebe.
In her exhibition, Cologne-based artist Christine Kassing is showing works that she has created over the last two years.
She uses various techniques: she works in layers with acrylic paint, spray cans, oil paints and oil sticks.
Her motifs are mostly based on real places from the urban landscape, such as house facades, wall corners, stairs or passageways. In her paintings, these are sometimes permeable: they seem to dissolve and are overgrown by plants. Cracks, fragments, lines and surfaces overlap. Layers slide over each other and faces or people are found loose in the space, wandering through it and leaving traces. This shows her exploration of the theme of drawing, which she has increasingly integrated into her painting over the past two years.
In her process-oriented approach, she works freely on the basis of a pictorial idea, taking uninhibited risks in order to develop new things, create contrasts, recombine things, create breaks and explore areas of tension. Some motif elements are repeated, which vary in different ways and can be found in several works. This creates pictorial worlds that go beyond the individual work.
Her works deal with transience, the fleetingness of the moment, the echo of the past, the perception of reality and the capture of moods. The interplay between the inner and outer world forms the thematic focus and the central theme of her works.
