Prof. Dr. Natasha A. Kelly (Berlin):

"Black Studies - art, culture and anti-racist science"

Theories, concepts and methods of Black Studies, such as diversity, intersectionality or critical race theory, have already found their way into German universities, but this academic field has yet to be institutionalized. In her lecture, Prof. Dr. Natasha A. Kelly will give a deep insight into the history, present and future of Black Studies and show to what extent it can be negotiated as an anti-racist discipline. From the analysis of the African
diaspora to the study of structural and institutional racism, this lecture will provide a comprehensive introduction to an important and dynamic field of knowledge production that is not limited to academia but also resonates in the arts and culture.

Natasha A. Kelly has been a visiting professor of cultural studies in the Studium Generale at Berlin University of the Arts since the winter semester 2023. She is a communication scientist and sociologist, author and editor, curator and multimedia artist with a focus on Black German history, Black feminism and Afrofuturism.
