»Unearthing the Music« präsentiert: Frauen in der Subkultur Osteuropas

In the organizer's words:

With Alexander Pehlemann (co-editor)

"Unearthing the Music. Footnotes on sonic resistance in non-democratic Europe 1950 - 2000" is an anthology published by Spector Books as the final part of an international online archive project for experimental underground and protest sounds based in Portugal, which includes the "real socialism" of Eastern Europe as well as the often forgotten regimes of Spain and Portugal and the Greek military dictatorship.

Key aspects of this spectrum are presented: the relationship to the state and the desire to break out as well as the power of the counter-community, but also disappointments after liberation. The focus will be on jazz in Poland and the GDR, conceptual post-punk in Yugoslavia, state studios for electronic music, Roentgenizdat and Magnetizdat products, Romanian avant-garde, Iberian punk or Ukrainian underground and, last but not least, women in the subculture of Eastern Europe, to whom the presentation will be particularly dedicated.

With texts by: Chris Bohn, Daniel Muzyczuk, Ivo Pospisil, Jelena Petrovic, Juraj Duris, Ksenija Stevanovic, Mara Traumane, Paula Guerra & Ana Oliveira, Pavla Jonssonova, Rui Eduardo Paes, Sergio Blardony, Stephen Coates, Zoran Pantelic, Wolf Kampmann, Hannelore Fobo, Octav Avramescu, Chris Cutler, Alexander Pehlemann, Trever Hagen, Yuriy Gurzhy, José Mende
