»Unearthing the Music« präsentiert: Frauen in der Subkultur Osteuropas

"Unearthing the Music. Footnotes on sonic resistance in non-democratic Europe 1950 - 2000" is an anthology published by Spector Books as the final part of an international online archive project for experimental underground and protest sounds based in Portugal, which includes the "real socialism" of Eastern Europe as well as the often forgotten regimes of Spain and Portugal and the Greek military dictatorship.

Key aspects of this spectrum are presented: the relationship to the state and the desire to break out as well as the power of the counter-community, but also disappointments after liberation. The focus will be on jazz in Poland and the GDR, conceptual post-punk in Yugoslavia, state studios for electronic music, Roentgenizdat and Magnetizdat products, Romanian avant-garde, Iberian punk or Ukrainian underground and, last but not least, women in the subculture of Eastern Europe, to whom the presentation will be particularly dedicated.

Rui Pedro Dâmaso is a music and sound curator based in Barreiro, Portugal. He is the author and operator of the project "Unearthing the Music" and co-founder and director of the group OUT.RA, which organizes music and film festivals and archive projects.

Alexander Pehlemann, provincial punk, art historian, curator, compiler, sub-label operator, author, DJ, dub mixer and editor works with Kulturny Dom Lipsk / Salon Similde and promotes New Sorbian Art.

Lucia Udvardyova is a music journalist, curator, organizer and musician. She is a co-founder of the Easterndaze project, dedicated to the emerging underground scenes in Central and Eastern Europe, and the Baba Vanga tape label. She works for the pan-European audiovisual platform SHAPE and is a film curator at WOMEX.
