Ueli Hirzel: Sandscapes

In the organizer's words:

Time. Circles.

An ironically introspective exchange with the audience

A black circle.

A pendulum draws a fine spiral of white sand.

The movement creates patterns, which become images. The images intertwine, one overlaps the other: Disappearance and appearance.

The round as an echo of the circus ring, where danger and vulnerability are real. Nothing can be concealed. Everything is there.

"A long time ago, Ueli Hirzel was a circus acrobat, a tightrope walker to be precise. Then he began to work behind the scenes and created a free space for aspiring artists in his Château de Monthelon in France. With Hirzel's support, numerous successful and pioneering productions were created outside the mainstream. Today, Ueli Hirzel no longer makes any major contortions when he takes to the stage. He takes a few brooms with him and shows us a kind of essence of circus life. Or of life itself? Radical wisdom of old age, one might call it. Even if Hirzel comes across as anything but old when he argues with himself and the audience."
