Ty Segall

In the organizer's words:

For Ty Segall from Laguna Beach, California, the diagnosis of hyperactivity syndrome seems to be a serious understatement. Between 2008 and 2014 alone, the musician, born in 1987, released a good dozen studio albums.
These are joined by live records, limited editions with abstruse names such as San Francisco Rock Compilation or Food or Weird Beer From Microsoft as well as splits, cassettes, EPs and LPs with Mikal Cronin, White Fence or his other bands Epsilons, Fuzz, Party Fowl ... the chronicler admits defeat at this point.
More often than not, these works appear on US indie Drag City. What we get to hear can usually be summed up relatively easily: LoFi garage rock with fuzz guitar rocket propulsion. Segall is one of the central figures in this retro-noise sound. Alongside him, Thee Oh Sees, Jay Reatard, Black Lips and Sic Alps are among the genre protagonists - he is also a member of the latter.
Like his colleagues, Ty Segall lives to a large extent from live performance. The snotty, wild stage sound regularly causes the good old mosh pits. But the singer, drummer and guitarist can also do completely different things. In 2013, for example, he released Sleeper, a purely acoustic songwriter album. "I'm sure people won't like it. But that's okay because it's different and that's cool," he comments laconically to himself.
Nevertheless, his heart belongs above all to noise rock, as his pre-solo phase as a drummer in a no wave band reveals. In interviews, the surfer, who now lives in San Francisco, cites the psych rock veterans Hawkwind as his favorite band. He also cites David Bowie's glam rock and hardcore legends Black Flag as influences.
Ty Segall released his most ambitious and diverse album to date, Three Bells, on Drag City in early 2024. After a European tour in June and July, the guitar rock tastemaker is following up with his first solo acoustic tour in August 2024. We are looking forward to more introverted songs from Segall's varied discography and new interpretations of his band repertoire. And the whole thing in the open air - also a small premiere for Ty Segall, who in the past was probably better known for reducing sweaty, sold-out clubs to rubble.
We are delighted to welcome him on August 15 at Draußen im Grünen in the beautiful Planten un Blomen. It's going to be something very special!
