TRACING LOVE von Jewgenija Tschuikowa

In the organizer's words:

With the exhibition "Tracing Love", the association Kreuzung an Sankt Helena - Ein Dialograum für christlichen Kult und zeitgenössische Kultur e.V. invites you to embark on a search for traces of love, its forms of expression and ultimately for yourself.
At the center of Yevgeniya Chuikova 's artistic work is a universal concept that is deeply rooted in our culture: love. But for the artist, love is not just a strong emotion or a powerful feeling. She sees it as a cultural, philosophical and ethical principle that permeates all aspects of human existence. Love as an attitude, as a unifying force, as the basis of our common existence - this complex theme runs like a red thread through Tschuikowa's entire oeuvre and forms the core of this exhibition.
In this retrospective exhibition, Yevgeniya Chuikova is showing works from 2001 to 2024, including over 20 paintings from various groups of works, selected sculptures and a light installation. Her artistic technique is unusual: she applies kisses to the canvas layer by layer, using unconventional materials such as lipstick, red wine, beet juice, glitter and dust from her studio.
The accompanying soundscape, which the artist composed from her own sound recordings from her last trip to Kyrgyzstan with the support of Ildikó Majevszkaja and Andreas Hildebrandt, offers a special addition to the visual experience.
The luminous works of Yevgeniya Chuikova unfold a special presence in the vast space of the church, which was built in 1960 in the Brutalist style using steel, slate, concrete and brick. Accompanied by a subtle soundscape, they contrast with the rugged architecture of the Catholic church, while at the same time picking up on the core idea of the building - the connection between the sacred and the profane.
