Tosca

The celebrated singer Tosca lives only for her art, until political intrigue suddenly breaks into the lives of the artist and her lover, the painter Cavaradossi: When he hides the political fugitive Angelotti, he is targeted by the unscrupulous police chief Scarpia, who has long had his eye on Tosca. In order to save Cavaradossi, Tosca must not only betray Angelotti, but also give herself to Scarpia. Few operas interweave political despotism and personal passions as closely as Puccini's Tosca from 1900, and the drama about love, jealousy, betrayal and despotism received its German premiere in Dresden in 1902. Director Johannes Schaaf has found a timeless narrative style for this production.
