Free jazz and Dadaism. This goes well together, as both movements break radically but with relish with aesthetic certainties and bourgeois discourses. The central protagonist of this concert: the "Ursonate", a sound poem by Dada artist Kurt Schwitters. When he wrote his text in 1923, Europe was in the throes of the first of two devastating wars. Today, 80 years after the end of the Second World War, we are also experiencing major upheavals and crises. Reason enough for trombonist Anke Lucks to bring the Ursonate into the present and re-compose it for wind sextet. Supported by narrator Thomas Krüger, full-time president of the Federal Agency for Civic Education, and members of the avant-garde quartet Potsa Lotsa led by saxophonist Silke Eberhard, Lucks searches for what Schwitters probably also sought to find: overcoming speechlessness in the face of increasingly absurd circumstances.

James Carter is a true modern creative. His saxophone hisses, squeals and fires off breathtaking lines. His technical sophistication is always at the service of his original ideas. With his organ trio, Carter has given the Django Reinhardt repertoire a soulful groove makeover. At the Newport Jazz Festival a few years ago, this gave the audience an endorphin rush, and the Blue Note bosses were so enthusiastic that they made Live From Newport Jazz Carter's label debut. The trio is now coming to Bonn from the epicenter of jazz. An evening not to be missed!
