"Bu Ben Degilim (This is Not Me)" tells the story of gay men in Turkey who are forced by social and family pressure to marry women in order to hide their sexual orientation. The film follows the three main characters Mustafa, Mehmet and Yusuf, who come from conservative families and have migrated to Istanbul. It sheds light on their inner conflicts as they are torn between social expectations and their true identity. The film also addresses the suffering of the women who are trapped in such marriages. Mehmet and Yusuf, both married, play the role of heterosexual family fathers while secretly loving men. Mustafa, Mehmet's lover for 15 years, tries to leave the intense but traumatic relationship behind, but Mehmet won't let him go.
