Themenführung: Die Stasi und die Frauen

In the organizer's words:

35 years ago, in the fall of 1989, courageous citizens took to the streets and put an end to the SED regime. Throughout the GDR, offices of the Ministry of State Security were occupied to stop the destruction of documents. On January 15, 1990, demonstrators forced their way into the Stasi headquarters and secured the documents of the secret police. In doing so, they created the basis for making the files accessible for the purpose of clarification.

On the historic site in Berlin-Lichtenberg, you can trace the history of the place and learn more about the former GDR secret police. As part of the guided tour "The Stasi and the women", you will get to know the permanent exhibition of the Stasi Records Archive and can take a look at an archive room with the original documents. Using short stories and examples from the files, we will show you how the Stasi collected and managed information with the help of women and used it for its own purposes. At the same time, you will learn how oppositional women became the focus of the Stasi and were systematically monitored.

After the tour, you can visit the Stasi Records Archive's collection of sample files. You can also apply for access to the files directly on site.

The number of participants is limited to 15 people.
