The The for three special concerts in Germany The The are a multimedia Gesamtkunstwerk that has always tested the limits of what is possible - perhaps this is why the project is considered one of the most influential bands of the 1980s. The lynchpin of The The is the British musician Matt Johnson, born in 1961. As the founder and only constant member, he has worked with over 300 musicians over the decades - including legends such as Sinéad O'Connor, Jools Holland, Neneh Cherry and Johnny Marr. After Johnson found his first band line-up in London through newspaper advertisements at the end of the 1970s, his first concerts and a recording contract with Epic Records soon followed. In 1981, Johnson released his debut album "Burning Blue Soul". This was followed just two years later by "Soul Mining", which contains the still legendary hit "This Is the Day". The big breakthrough came in 1986 with the third album "Infected": The record stayed in the British Top20 charts for 30 weeks and was certified platinum. Johnson underlined his multimedia claim with an accompanying long-play music film, with which he went on tour worldwide. With the album "Mind Bomb", released in 1989, The The became a band again, touring live for the first time. This was followed in 1993 by "Dusk", which was also accompanied by a world tour. Just one year later, "Hanky Panky" was released, a pure cover album with songs by country stars Hank Williams. After a break with Sony Music, Johnson released the album "NakedSelf" on Interscope Records in 2000 - and two years later played the last concert of The The. In the following years, he devoted himself to film soundtracks and released three of them with The The: "Tony" (2011), "Hyena" (2015) and "Moonbug" (2015). In 2018, The The returned after a 16-year break from the stage and celebrated the tour with a live album recorded at the legendary Royal Albert Hall. Another highlight for fans followed in 2024: the release of "Ensoulment", the first new studio album in 22 years, in addition to the Ensouled world tour! Both critics and fans were thrilled - Matt Johnson's vision is impressively brought to life live by the experienced musicians. The concerts in Berlin and Cologne in September were completely sold out. After the overwhelming feedback from this year's concerts, more are now to follow, including three in Germany: in the three unique venues Elbphilharmonie (Hamburg), Circus Krone (Munich) and Batschkapp (Frankfurt), fans can look forward to a special mix of old classics and new songs - in a setting that will give each concert its very own magic.
