The Staples Jr. Singers recorded their first and only album "When do we get paid" almost 50 years ago. The members of the gospel family band from Aberdeen, Mississippi were just teenagers when they started out. Their songs dealt with what they saw and experienced: the backlash against segregation, poverty, civil rights. "These songs have meaning for some of the things we've been through," said Annie, one of the siblings. They broke tradition and wrote songs that were "stone cold soul". Gospel suddenly sounded funky and smooth. Three generations and many performances later, you can now experience them with their newly released album in their old freshness.
