"The Realization of History" mit Alevtyna Melnychuk : SOLOMIYA STUDIO FESTIVAL im KVOST

This reading accompanies the presentation of "The Realization of History" (2024), an installation of Molotov cocktail dummies by Alevtyna Melnychuk, which was removed from the OSTEN Festival in Bitterfeld-Wolfen in 2024. The installation is now being shown again as part of "Various Monuments" at Solomiya Studio. Originally intended as a reflection on collective resilience, the work instead became the focus of political controversy when a right-wing German party attempted to instrumentalize it for its own agenda.
The removal of the installation set off a chain of events: Widespread media coverage, a heated public debate and frustration on the part of the artist. In the talk, Alevtyna talks about her experiences with censorship and political exploitation. The new presentation of her work will be accompanied by a meditation on the question: What does it mean when art, which is supposed to inspire reflection, becomes a tool of manipulation?
