Teleidoscope - The Youth Jazz Orchestra meets Antonia Hausmann (tb, Leipzig)

Under the title Teleidoscope, Leipzig trombonist Antonia Hausmann presents a big band version of her own compositions with the JJO Sachsen. In her pieces, Antonia Hausmann encourages us to change our perspective and to question our own perception time and again. Her musical stories are inspired by encounters, moments and impressions that the Leipzig native has experienced and collected between Upper Lusatia and Beijing. There is no room for vanity in these compositions, instead a wide range of ideas that never seem strained or contrived. The source of this is Hausmann's undisguised approach to emotional storytelling - chamber jazz with pop appeal.

The musical background for her work is the experience she has gained as a sought-after side woman in a wide variety of genres. She has performed on stage with pop greats such as Clueso, Joris and Kat Frankie, enriches the music of singer-songwriter Sarah Lesch and also feels at home in the electro and indie context (Karl die Große, Wooden Peak & Philipp Rumsch Ensemble). Last but not least, she is a member of renowned jazz formations such as Trio.Diktion (Leipziger Jazznachwuchspreis 2014) and the Volker Heuken Sextett.

The JUGEND-JAZZORCHESTER SACHSEN is a big band at its best. The ensemble, whose stage line-up comprises no more than 20 musicians, has existed in ever-changing line-ups since 1993 and has delighted both regional audiences and jazz lovers in Canada, Greece, India, Hungary, Israel and wherever else its numerous concert tours have taken it. The artistic direction is also constantly changing in order to give the young musicians, aged between 18 and 26, as diverse an impetus as possible. Jazz greats such as Ed Partyka (Switzerland/USA), Malte Schiller, Jan Schreiner, Janis Steprans (Canada), Milan Svoboda (Czech Republic), Jürgen Friedrich, Carla Bley (USA), Joe Sullivan (Canada), Rolf von Nordenskjöld, Marko Lackner, Al Porcino, Ansgar Striepens, Emiliano Sampaio (Brazil/Austria), Theresia Philipp, Steffen Schorn and Štěpánka Balcarová (Czech Republic) have conducted the band. The overarching motto is always "Think Jazz! Feel Jazz! Be Jazz!"
