TANDEM - IN WELCHER SPRACHE TRÄUMST DU?

In the organizer's words:

17-year-old Fanny (Lilith Grasmug) from Strasbourg goes on a language trip to Leipzig to visit Lena (Josefa Heinsius), the daughter of a friend of her mother's, who is the same age. Lena is self-confident and dreams of becoming a political activist, but initially shows little enthusiasm for the shy Fanny. To gain her attention, Fanny invents a more exciting life. She succeeds in gaining Lena's interest and trust, but as the two slowly grow closer, Fanny becomes more and more entangled in her web of little untruths.

At the same time, the tensions in Lena's family become more and more apparent. Her mother Susanne (Nina Hoss) is trying to come to terms with her unhappy separation, while Lena's grandfather escalates the family celebration with his right-wing conservative views. Fanny is involuntarily drawn into these dynamics and experiences Germany's social divisions at first hand through the conflicts within the family.

A short time later in Strasbourg, Lena meets Fanny's overprotective mother (Chiara Mastroianni) and sees how Fanny also has to struggle - with the spitefulness of her classmates and the powerlessness of her worried mother. Lena and Fanny both have to face up to the prejudices and expectations of those around them and find their own way.

"Tandem - In Which Language Do You Dream?" is a sensitive story about self-discovery, identity and the power of truth in a complex, politically charged present. The film shows the tender rapprochement of two young women who learn to understand themselves and each other, master the challenges of their worlds and create a connection that goes beyond words.
