Swing Manouche: Giacomo Smith Munich Quartet

The London-based Italian-American clarinettist, saxophonist, composer, producer and educator Giacomo Smith is a musician who brings worlds closer together, such as those of tradition and modernity. He also brings together the sounds of the cities in which jazz underwent important developments: Kansas City, New Orleans, New York and Paris. He does this with an irresistible mixture of seriousness, wit, absurdity and charm.

No wonder his formation Kansas Smitty's House Band has already won a category at the British Jazz Awards (2018) and a Parliamentary Jazz Award (2022). In our Swing Manouche series, Giacomo Smith performs with the hand-picked line-up of his Munich Quartet.

The Brit by choice also imparts his immense knowledge and fundamental research at the Royal Academy of Music. In his lectures, he shows that there is more that unites jazz than divides it. On stage, Giacomo Smith has proven his theories not only with the Kansas Smitty's House Band, but also alongside Wynton Marsalis, Joe Lovano, Jamie Cullum, China Moses, Guy Barker and Bireli Lagrene.
