With its extreme contrasts, ranging from dramatic climaxes to tender, poetic moments, Franz Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 2 is a virtuoso and interpretative challenge for soloists. The piano concerto is framed by Strauss twice. Josef Strauss composed his "Dynamiden-Walzer" in 1865 for the Industrialists' Ball in the Redoutensaal of the Vienna Hofburg, venturing into compositional realms that are not usually touched by dance music. No wonder Richard Strauss plagiarized this waltz jewel for his "Rosenkavalier". Of course, the famous waltz melody is not missing in the "Rosenkavalier Suite", which Philippe Jordan has newly compiled. The selected key musical passages from the opera allow the audience to experience the plot in concentrated form and bring the famous arias of the Marschallin, Octavian and Baron von "Ochs" to life, even when there are no singers on stage.

Unfortunately, pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet had to cancel his participation in the concerts on February 19 and 20, 2025 due to unforeseen personal scheduling conflicts. However, the French pianist François-Frédéric Guy has stepped in as a renowned substitute. The program with Liszt's 2nd Piano Concerto remains unchanged.

Following the concert on February 20, 2025, there will be an "MPHIL Late" with "MPhil Jazz" feat. Henning Sieverts will take place in Hall E. Admission is free.
