St. Patrick's Day in München

Irish people from Munich celebrate with locals

The Irish national holiday St. Patrick's Day is not only celebrated on the island, but worldwide. In Munich, the St. Patrick's Day Parade was held for the first time in 1996, organized by some Irish people and friends in Munich. The event was planned for 200 people, but 3000 turned up! After that, it was clear that the parade in honor of the Irish national saint would become a tradition.

In the meantime, many associations and volunteers have been helping with the organization: from inviting the parade participants and guests of honour to setting up the stands and stages, catering, electricity, water, toilets and waste. Everything has to be thought of at such a mass event. After the German-Irish Friends of Bavaria had been the main coordinator for years, the participating associations joined forces in 2015 under the umbrella organization Munich Irish Network e. V. and formed a parade committee.
