The Therapy Sessions

On January 17, Daniel Decker's new record "The Therapy Sessions" will be released on John Steam Records together with the post-punk duo Wüstung.

A plea for mental health before and aftercare. The work is a therapeutic writing set with vinyl postcard and download.

Two overalls, one disco ball. Distorted bass, distorted guitar and a drum machine. Plus German-language lyrics that deal with alienated life, privilege and what you lose and what you gain. The Berlin-based duo Wüstung are entering the current post-punk trend with brusque pop hints, noise instead of chord songs and catchy machine beats that clumsily hit your feet.

Marius Beutel and Peer Göbel have been making music together since their youth; with their indie band mobilé, they toured with Ja, Panik and the Locas in Love, among others, and have been touring as a duo with Wüstung since 2017. Peer also sings in the band PEER. The Wüstung EP "alpha" was self-recorded, produced and released as a 10-inch in January 2020, but was lost in the Corona years.

The debut album "beta" will now be released on January 31, 2025 on vinyl, MC and digital, again self-recorded and DIY, financed via crowdfunding.

Shortly before that, a collaboration with Daniel Decker, the "Therapie-Sessions", a vinyl postcard with two songs in a collector's box, will be released on John Steam Records on January 17, 2025.

Daniel Decker, born in 1982 in Neuss, studied German and musicology and has written for Intro Magazin, Musikexpress.de and Rollingstone.de, among others. He has been running the blog Kotzendes Einhorn about lethargy, revolution, love and culture since 2009. In 2019, he published his episodic novel "Dør"(Ventil-Verlag), which is about the dark band collective of the same name and its sixth LP, which was thought to have been lost. Daniel Decker had been active as Pawnshop Orchestra since 2003 until he finally started releasing under his own name.

His 2015 album Weißer Wal (White Whale) received favorable reviews in the press. In the TAZ newspaper, Natalie Mayroth described the record as a "melancholic pop album saturated with memories". Thomas Winkler gave it 4.5 out of 6 stars in Musikexpress and wrote that the lyrics captured the feelings of the "self-optimization generation, which has now lost its desires after the digitalization of life" and Rolling Stone drew comparisons to early Blumfeld and Tocotronic. When Decker is not busy with other people's and his own unreleased music, he lives and works in Berlin.
