In a quiet Irish town, the anticipation of the upcoming holidays is growing. Christmas trees are being cut down, colorful lights and garlands adorn the gutters and festive music can be heard everywhere. What is the most wonderful time of the year for some is particularly difficult for others. Five households talk about the rarely discussed but nevertheless real experience of not being cheerful at Christmas - whether it's about meeting Christmas expenses, overcoming loneliness, dealing with the amount of food or enduring sadness. Behind the facade of tinsel and festivity, the film explores the deeper connections that arise when expectations and reality collide. The result is a portrait of society full of humor, tragedy and questions about the meaning of Christmas.
