The world seems to be on a collision course. States are not only fighting each other with extreme brutality, but are also dividing society internally. And yet numerous books are currently being written that outline ideas on how a different way of living together could be possible. As a return of reason in unreasonable times. After all, there used to be goals, there used to be a desire for an open society based on solidarity. It may not have been within reach, but it was a perspective that many could agree on.
Before his death, literary scholar Aleida Assmann and her husband Jan Assman reflected on "public spirit" and called for a different political culture to the one currently practised. The authors Hadija Haruna-Oelker and Ronja von Wurmb-Seibel are also concerned with the "sixth social sense", as the Assmanns call it. Their books "Zusammensein" (Being Together) and "Zusammen" (Together) advocate the art of being an ally and a society of inclusion. Reading their books, one is tempted to say: it could be so simple and so joyful. An evening that offers the chance to become an ally of these books and their cause. For a future of shared reciprocity.
The event will be accompanied by a deaf performer for German Sign Language (DGS) and two interpreters for German spoken language and German Sign Language. With Paulina Güllü, Maine Callahan and Mille Skovdal Jepsen.
