For World Children's Day, the state parliament wants to attract young people to parliament. There will even be a walk-in rocket - and a plenary session for children.

Düsseldorf (dpa/lnw) - The mouse and Shaun the Sheep are paying a visit to the Düsseldorf State Parliament on World Children's Day (September 15). Under the motto "With children's rights into the future", the state parliament will be open from 12 noon to 6 pm. KiKa presenter Checker Julian, alias Julian Janssen, will also be on hand to act out a plenary session with the children.

According to a spokesperson, the "Spacebuzz One" from the German Aerospace Center (DLR) will also be making a stop at Parliament for the first time. In the learning truck in the shape of a rocket, children can fly into space using virtual reality.

DLR's "Spacebuzz One" is a walk-in truck that resembles a reclining rocket on the outside and houses space-themed virtual reality technology on the inside. Shaun the sheep and the orange-colored namesake of the "Sendung mit der Maus" show are available for photos with the children, according to the state parliament.

State Parliament President André Kuper emphasized: "If our democracy is to have a future, we must involve children and young people more in our society and set an example of democracy for them. Children are our future and deserve to be heard and involved more. We are drawing attention to this on September 15. World Children's Day in the state parliament is a colorful celebration of democracy for the whole family."
