SH4iKH Quartett: Asymmetric Fairytale (Hessisches Jazzpodium 2024)

The SH4iKH Quartet's debut album Spinnennetz, released in 2022, sets various sections - short stories - from the life of the German-Arab composer and saxophonist Maximilian Shaikh-Yousef to music. Lovingly played melodies, delicate and intense, fragile and expressive. All of this is framed by an energetic groove and a radiant cloud of sound. The music of the quartet, which was founded in summer 2015, is characterized by various styles of jazz as well as Arabic sounds and classical literature and is given its own facet by the musical language of the composer and his fellow musicians. Since 2017, the band has played at various festivals in Germany and toured Europe several times. The quality and interplay of Shaikh-Yousef's ensemble has been recognized with awards including the 2019 Young Munich Jazz Prize. Shaikh-Yousef received the Frankfurt Jazz Scholarship in 2018. The Hessian Jazz Podium 2024 will be held from 5 to 8 December on behalf of the Hessian Ministry of Science, Art and Culture (HMWK), 2 days each at the Romanfabrik and the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK).Presentation of the Hessian Jazz Award to John Schröder on 8.12.24. In cooperation with the Jazz Initiative Frankfurt and with the kind support of the Hessian Ministry of Science, Art and Culture (HMWK) and the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain.
