Schwarz-helle Nacht - eine performative Zeitreise

In the organizer's words:

On November 9 and 10, 1938, around 460 attacks on Jewish fellow citizens took place in Düsseldorf. These nationwide planned actions went down in history as the November pogroms. Businesses and private property were destroyed, houses of worship destroyed. Contemporary witnesses and eyewitnesses reported intrusions into the most intimate spaces, violent attacks and deaths. The events were the first sad climax of the Nazi regime's systematic policy of expulsion and extermination. Many more were to follow.

In "Schwarz-helle Nacht", the theater collective Pièrre.Vers stages the voices of Düsseldorf's Jewish citizens on the events of the November 1938 pogrom based on eyewitness accounts from the archive of the memorial and takes the audience through the city to original locations. The present meets the past at places where the events took place. The perspectives of Jewish people today are also described.

The performative tour through the city makes the complexity of the events surrounding the night of November 9, 1938 in Düsseldorf visible, audible and tangible - in a very concrete, direct and powerful way.
