The meeting of composer Peter I. Tchaikovsky and choreographer Marius Petipa was one of the happiest coincidences in ballet history.

As the "father" of classical ballet, Petipa created the dance version of Tchaikovsky's incidental music for "Sleeping Beauty", "The Nutcracker" and finally for the work that became the myth and epitome of all ballet art under the name "Swan Lake".

Tchaikovsky made himself immortal with the melodies to his most famous stage work, while Petipa's sensual portrayal of the flapping white birds became synonymous with elegance and grace.

The Russian artist had planned 24 dancing swans for the realization of the fairytale-like material. Doubling this number to 48 is a choreographic masterpiece - beautiful to look at and an aesthetic feast for the eyes in its opulent imagery.

Following the great success of the "Nutcracker" performances in recent years, the International Festival Ballet can now once again be seen in the Prinzregententheater with Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake". In a unique production, the ensemble relies not only on the visual appeal of a double cast of swans, but also on the magnificent images and top dancing performance of the protagonists. As a Christmas highlight in Munich, the story of Prince Siegfried and the beautiful Odette presents itself as a fairytale production for the whole family - with high-quality art, lavish images and music that is destined to last forever.

As special guests, we welcome Thekla and Mackay to the afternoon performances, who, as child-friendly narrators, tell us a little about the background to the ballet and the production before the performance begins, getting young and old in the mood for the magical performance!
