Saša Stanišić's new stories are dedicated to this constant pondering at the crossroads of our biography, where we could have taken a more surprising path, made an unusual choice or told a lie. Like the cleaner who decides to finally take life into her own hands with a brush made of goat hair in her hand. Just like the German-Bosnian writer who travels to Heligoland for the first time, only to realize that he has been there before...

Saša Stanišić was born in Višegrad (Yugoslavia) in 1978 and has lived in Germany since 1992. His stories and novels have been translated into over 30 languages and have won numerous awards. Saša Stanišić received the Leipzig Book Fair Prize for "Vor dem Fest" and the 2019 German Book Prize for "Herkunft", as well as the Eichendorff Literature Prize, the Schiller Prize and the Hans Fallada Prize, among others. He lives and works in Hamburg.
