Chamber music for string instruments is the unifying element of this ballet evening, in which the Staatsballett performs together with soloists from the Staatskapelle in an unusually intimate atmosphere. In this program, the dancers explore the styles of choreographers from three different generations. Interpersonal relationships and longings are the focus of their work.

The program opens with Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, one of the most sought-after choreographers on the international ballet scene. The Belgian with Colombian roots has received many awards and has already performed her numerous works with over 70 different ensembles worldwide. For her Karlsruhe debut, she presents one of her most frequently performed works. In Requiem for a Rose , the artist reflects on the transience of beauty and romance to Franz Schubert's string quintet.

The Dutchman Hans van Manen is often referred to as the "Mondrian of dance". He is undoubtedly one of the great innovators of European dance in the twentieth century. His Grosse Fuge to music by Beethoven is considered one of the most important masterpieces of contemporary ballet. Van Manen's unmistakable classicist signature is supported by strong stage personalities. His many years of work for the two most important Dutch ensembles, Het Nationale Ballet and Nederlands Dans Theater, have had a formative influence on his style. Internationally, his pieces have long been part of the permanent repertoire of the world's most important ballet companies.

The young Mthuthuzeli November will create the premiere of the evening with Water Me. The all-round talent also contributes the composition for strings and percussion. Originally from Cape Town, London's Ballet Black is the charismatic newcomer's current artistic home. He has also worked for the Cape Dance Company, the English National Ballet, Northern Ballet and the Washington Ballet and was honored with the Lawrence Olivier Award for the best new ballet production in 2020.
