Russia’s War in Ukraine. Ukrainische Wissenschaftler*innen beschreiben den Krieg

In the organizer's words:

Ukrainian academic Tetiana Kostiuchenko has lived in Berlin since Russia invaded her homeland. Now, together with Tamara Martsenyuk, she has published a book that reflects on her experiences and those of other Ukrainian academics and cultural workers since the invasion. The editors themselves write about the mobilization of international academic networks in order to continue working and stay in contact under the circumstances of the war or in exile.

The other contributions cover a wide range of topics: While Yuliia Sorok reports on her immediate experiences of the war under the title "Surviving Occupation in Mariupol: The First Three Weeks of the War", sociologist Mychailo Wynnyckyj already ventures a vision of the future: "Imagining Postwar Ukraine: Identity, Structure, Agency". The message is clear: "Victims No More: Ukrainian Literature Reacts to the Invasion", as literary scholar Rostyslav Semkiv programmatically titles his text. Finally, Mariia Shuvalova analyzes previously impossible intersections of fiction and reality in her literary contribution "First Novels, Then Tanks: Contemporary Russian Military Fiction (2009-22) and Ukrainian Literature about the War (2015-22)." The authors' respective teaching and research activities were abruptly interrupted, but they continue to reflect on the social, political and economic events in Ukraine. They now want to make their analyses and experiences accessible to a broad public and put them up for discussion. The event will be held in English.
